Brass Sockets and Switches
Brass sockets and switches are available from Socket Store in seven distinct finishes — polished, antique, light antique, satin, aged, mixed and unlacquered — each offered across multiple plate styles including Victorian, Georgian and Contour. The majority of our brass ranges are made in Britain from solid brass and hand-finished by skilled metalworkers in Worcester. The Lexus and Usk ranges are quality imported options for those looking for more competitive price points. Whether you're fitting a period property or a contemporary interior with warm metallic accents, there's a brass finish to suit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What brass finishes are available for sockets and switches?
Socket Store stocks brass sockets and switches in polished brass, antique brass, light antique brass, satin brass, aged brass, mixed brass and unlacquered brass. Each finish is available across a range of plate styles.
Are brass sockets and switches made from solid brass?
Yes. Our British-made brass ranges are manufactured from solid brass, not brass-plated steel or zinc alloy. Solid brass is heavier, more durable, and has a richer, more consistent colour than plated alternatives. It is also the material used in traditional British electrical fittings, which is why it remains the preferred choice for period properties and high-quality renovations. Note that the Usk and Lexus ranges, available in the antique brass finish, is our entry-level option and is not manufactured in Britain — all other ranges are Made in Britain from solid brass.
Does unlacquered brass develop a patina?
Yes. Unlacquered brass is left without a protective coating, which means it will develop a natural patina over time as it reacts with its environment. This is a characteristic of the material, not a fault, and many customers choose it specifically for this reason.
What plate styles are available in brass?
Most brass finishes are available across Victorian, Georgian, Contour and other plate styles, including modular grid plates that allow you to combine sockets, switches, dimmers and data points on a single plate.
