MadeInBritainMade in Britain Sockets and Switches

Most of our sockets and switches are manufactured in Britain by G+H Electrical Accessories, a British manufacturer with decades of experience producing solid brass and copper electrical fittings. This isn't a marketing label applied after the fact — it reflects a genuine difference in how these products are made, and it's why they carry the confidence of a 10-year warranty.

Why Made in Britain matters for sockets and switches

A socket or switch is handled every day, for years, often for decades. The quality of the underlying material and manufacturing determines whether it still looks and feels right after fifteen years, or whether the finish has worn thin, the mechanism has loosened, or the plate has warped. British-made brass and copper fittings from G+H are manufactured to a standard that reflects this — solid metal rather than plated alternatives, precision-engineered mechanisms, and finishing processes developed over years of production, not shortcuts taken to hit a price point.

This is also why we can offer a 10-year warranty on these ranges without hesitation. It isn't a promotional gesture — it's confidence in the manufacturing standard behind the product.

Which ranges are Made in Britain

The majority of our range — across brass, copper, rose gold, bronze, matt black, white, chrome, brushed steel, nickel, pewter, graphite, the rustic range, and our colour finishes — is manufactured in Britain by G+H Electrical Accessories.

Three ranges are the exception, and we're upfront about this rather than letting a blanket claim imply otherwise:

  • Usk — our entry-level range, available across all finishes, is imported. It carries the same 10-year warranty as our British-made ranges.
  • Lexus — our screwless range in brushed steel and antique brass is imported.
  • Retrotouch — our screwless range in white, and our Brushed Bronze finish, are imported.

Every other range you'll find across the site — including all of our best-selling antique brass and copper finishes — is manufactured in Britain.

What "solid brass" and "solid copper" actually mean

British-made fittings from G+H are constructed from solid brass or solid copper, not a plated or coated base metal. This matters more than it might first appear. A plated finish is a thin layer of the intended metal applied over steel or zinc alloy — durable enough for a period, but vulnerable to wear at the edges and corners over time, where the base material can eventually show through. Solid brass and solid copper are the material throughout, so the finish doesn't wear away because there is nothing beneath it to reveal.

This is also why unlacquered brass and our living finish copper ranges are able to develop a genuine patina over time, rather than simply flaking or discolouring — the metal itself is ageing, not a surface coating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all Socket Store products Made in Britain?

No — the majority are, manufactured by G+H Electrical Accessories, but three ranges are imported: Usk (our entry-level range, all finishes), Lexus (screwless, brushed steel and antique brass), and Retrotouch (screwless white, and Brushed Bronze). All ranges, British-made or imported, carry a 10-year warranty.

Who manufactures your British-made sockets and switches?

Our British-made ranges are manufactured by G+H Electrical Accessories, a UK manufacturer specialising in solid brass and copper electrical accessories.

What is the difference between solid brass and plated brass?

Solid brass is brass throughout the product. Plated brass is a thin layer of brass applied over a base metal such as steel or zinc alloy. Solid brass is more durable over the long term, as there is no base material to become visible as the surface wears. All our British-made brass ranges are solid brass.

Do imported ranges carry the same warranty as Made in Britain ranges?

Yes. Usk, Lexus, and Retrotouch all carry the same 10-year warranty as our British-made ranges.

Why choose a Made in Britain socket or switch over a cheaper imported alternative?

Solid brass and copper construction, precision manufacturing, and finishing processes developed over years of production result in a product built to perform for decades rather than years. For fittings that will be touched daily and are difficult to replace without redecorating, that durability has a real practical value beyond the initial purchase price.
